In June 2024, the Supreme Court of Hungary confirmed the European Union Court of Justice’s prior ruling: daily and weekly rest periods must be given separately to employees. For employers, this has profound implications. For example in case for those with a Monday-to-Friday work schedule, the ruling essentially mandates free Friday evenings for employees.
This new legal requirement presents significant challenges, as few larger employers are currently in compliance. Without intervention from the Constitutional Court (highly unlikely) or imminent modifications to the Labour Code (currently on hold), this issue affects not only the present but also the future of the employment in Hungary.
During the webinar, Dr. Fodor will delve into the ruling’s details, discuss its practical impact on employers, and share strategies to address this evolving legal challenge. He will also highlight other similar “time bombs” within Hungarian working time legislation that employers should be aware of.
